Second generation OSCAR franchisee Chris McGee works from home and has the flexibility to plan his business around customers and family
Sometimes things happen for a reason and when Chris McGee’s parents, Peter and Avril, sold their successful south Nottinghamshire OSCAR pet food franchise when they retired, little did he know he would be following in their footsteps - albeit in a neighbouring area and three years later.
“I enjoyed eleven years of supporting my parents in business,” Chris explains. “I was old enough to get involved - managing the holiday breaks, providing back up with storekeeping and keeping the place tidy. At the time it was a novelty to do something different from my normal day job.
“But times change and I was ready to rethink my future. Throughout my career I had dealt with the public, but working in a sales capacity during the past 12 years tempted me to use these skills in my own business. While recalling my parent’s success, I looked at the opportunities available in franchising, only to discover that an OSCAR resale business was available within my own postcode area.”
Good start

Chris didn’t hesitate in taking things to the next stage: “My knowledge of OSCAR and the concept of the business, combined with an open line of communication and excellent support from head office, gave me a good start. I now have the best of both worlds - I am working from home, with the flexibility of planning my days around customers and family.
“The added pleasure of caring for pets alongside Woody, my Cocker Spaniel, who has been thriving on OSCAR food for many years, gives me a feeling of complete satisfaction.”
Number one

Chris adds: “Despite what has gone before me, this is very much the beginning of a familiar way of life. I can see that OSCAR has kept abreast of the industry in providing wholesome, balanced diets.
“The quality and basic principles of the business remain the same and my intentions are to run a successful business and become the number one in turnover and the number one in sales. Thanks to my parents, I have a lot to live up to.”
