Students, teachers, principals and head office staff at Razzamataz Theatre Schools are working together to find solutions to reduce waste and encourage recycling.
The franchise network of almost 50 schools recently introduced reusable water bottles and bags to reduce the consumption of single use plastic.
In addition, the company now purchases uniform from a supplier that doesn’t individually wrap each item to reduce unnecessary plastic packaging waste.
Denise Hutton-Gosney, founder and managing director of Razzamataz, says: “We were seeing lots of plastic bottles, which was one of the reasons for introducing our own reusable water bottle.
“We’ve had such positive feedback and it’s wonderful that we are helping to reduce waste, while also encouraging children to drink more water.”
Many individual schools are also taking steps to be more environmentally aware.
Razzamataz Sutton Coldfield reuse all old paper, including spare newsletters, old scripts and lyrics, to make into staff notebooks and note sheets.
Principal Nick Furlong says: “We don’t dispose of any paper, other than confidential or sensitive matter that needs to be shredded.
“We have also installed LED smart lighting and heating in our office and storage facilities to reduce electricity and monitor our heating use.
“We know these might seem like small steps, but it just shows how easily we can all help to protect our planet for the future.”
