Deso Dimitrov explains why he chose to buy a franchise from Cafe2U and deliver fresh coffee and great food to businesses, events and functions

Deso Dimitrov, 36, grew up in Bulgaria and spent over 17 years as a professional chef, as well as running a taxi business for five years and playing water polo at a professional level. So why did he decide to hang up his chef’s whites to start a Cafe2U coffee franchise?

“In my final job before I became a Cafe2U franchise partner, I was responsible for running a kitchen providing 400 children’s meals and 200 adults’ meals each day, so I was used to the pressures of work. I had also previously owned a taxi business, where I had to work long hours every day of the week, so I was ready for a business that would be profitable and provide a good work/life balance in order for me to be able to spend time with my wife and son.

“Having spent some time looking at a coffee franchise in Kent, which no longer exists, I continued my research online and came across Cafe2U on www.franchisedirect.com. I started to think that this was a more suitable franchise opportunity for me. I loved the concept of Cafe2U, the great vans and their fantastic coffee.”

After spending time with the Cafe2U team, Deso realised the ongoing support provided by the company was going to help him build a successful business. He explains: “It took me just one week to decide to go ahead with the purchase of the franchise and I secured a loan to raise the funds I needed. So in September 2009, after one week of initial training at the Cafe2U head office, I launched my franchise in Tunbridge Wells and Crowbridge, East Sussex.

“Cafe2U is different because we don’t have to wait for our customers to come to us in a traditional coffee shop location. We have a planned route each day to visit out-of-town business parks and large groups of office blocks, but we will often get requests from new locations to add into our route. Our customers know when we have arrived because we have a Godfather-themed air horn that sounds just like an ice cream van.”

Deso has no regrets about buying his Cafe2U franchise. “If you are thinking about buying a coffee franchise, I would say just go for it,” he confirms. “Franchising is always the safer option and the Cafe2U team will support you all the way.

“My goal now is to continue to increase my profits. I hope to return home in a few years time and would like to have a great business to sell on.”
