The Taiwanese steamed buns will now be available for supermarket shoppers
The Sushi Daily franchise, owned by KellyDeli, has been known for its fresh sushi counters in Waitrose and Asda supermarkets and now it has launched its own range of cloud-shaped steamed Taiwanese bao buns.
Available from April, bao buns will be priced at £3.75 each and the range will include three different products. A Panko Chicken Bao laced with fiery Sriracha sauce, a Sweet Soy Chicken Bao topped with crispy onions and a vegetarian Spicy Tofu Bao made with indulgent katsu tofu and Sriracha.
Stemming from third-century China, bao buns have become popular throughout Asia, including Taiwan where the pork belly-stuffed gua bao is a popular street food snack, now they are fast becoming a popular UK treat.
KellyDeli managing director, Ian Roberts, said: “This is a totally new type of offering for us and something that is very different to our usual sushi selection.
“Providing customers with choice and trending products is something that is extremely important to us. We always move with the trends at Sushi Daily and we’re delighted to introduce these vibrant and moreish bao buns which will be a great accompaniment to any sushi spread.”
