Maths learning centre franchise, Mathnasium, might need a calculator. A 50 per cent increase in network revenue in 2021 is no mean feat, especially considering the pandemic. But the good news doesn’t stop there.
Three brand-new franchises are set to open across London in Bromley, Stanmore and Whetstone. All three new franchisees have chosen to leave the financial or professional sector to pursue success with Mathnasium. This is a well-trodden path, being the most common background of franchisees across the UK network, including Mathnasium’s UK director and Clapham franchisee, John Preston.
A former investment banker, John explained the trend. He said: “They’re used to earning good money, and a Mathnasium franchise is capable of delivering an even better income. But it’s about more than just money, it also gives them something they couldn’t get in their careers – the ability to make a real positive difference to people, to their community. To give something back. When you look at the monetary returns alongside that altruistic value you’re giving to children and families, it’s a powerful combination.”
Taking over the role just before the pandemic, John had nevertheless seen Mathnasium grow during and after the pandemic. As well as the strength of the product and its launch of online learning platform, Mathnasium@home, John attributed the success to his vision to put franchisees at the heart of the business and support them wherever they asked for it.
He said: “We invested heavily in our franchisees and the support we provide, that’s something ongoing. We’ve put the management, sales and marketing foundations in place that get every new centre off to a great start and keep them there.”
With Rab in Harrow becoming the first UK franchisee to move into a second premises, John sees this as the way forward for the franchise.
He said: “In the US, the largest franchisee has over 35 centres. So the scope here is unlimited. People can drive this business to whatever level they want to. By the end of this year, we’re going to be in a really strong position, with double the number of centres we’ve got now. We’re scaling up to become a nationwide leader in education. It’s a huge 12 months ahead.”
