About Little Scrummers Rugby

What is Little Scrummers Rugby and what services does it provide?

Little Scrummers is a fun and exciting tag rugby club for children aged from 18 months to seven years.

Founded in 2009 by the entrepreneurial mum of a rugby-mad three year old, when Carly Poyser was unable to find a suitable rugby activity for her little boy she set about creating a ‘rugby experience’ herself. The first club she established had 30 attendees and within six years a team of coaches helped her to expand the business to include 10 clubs with an impressive 700 children in attendance.

Designed to be a whole family experience, Little Scrummers Rugby combines a positive environment, inspiring coaching and a fun atmosphere to engage children in the game of non-contact rugby. Children must be accompanied and parents and often grandparents watch from the sidelines - many even get involved with coaching.

Little Scrummers classes are designed to encourage children into sport from a young age and the business is insured to take children from as young as 18 months, as long as they are steady enough on their feet. Classes cover separate age groups up to age seven, when many children then move on to their local rugby clubs.

Little Scrummers coaches believe that rugby is a sport with something for every child. Along with the physical benefits of reaching developmental milestones and fine-tuning motor skills, shy children often grow in confidence, firm friendships are founded and supportive coaching inspires unforgettable moments of greatness.

How does a Little Scrummers Rugby franchise work?

Following organic expansion from one-10 clubs, the team at Little Scrummers built a robust business model to support additional franchises, with proven delivery methods and extensive support available to new business owners.

There are two options for Little Scrummers franchise owners: they can either train to be class coaches themselves or take on a more managerial role and recruit coaches to run the classes for them.

Franchisees who choose to coach the groups themselves will be fully trained to the required level by the Little Scrummers team. As well as coaching the children, franchisees are expected to promote and develop their business locally and undertake the day-to-day business administration, including securing appropriate venues, managing bookings and accounts, and answering questions and queries from parents.

Any franchisees not wishing to coach their own classes are instead responsible for recruiting and overseeing trained coaches to run the sessions. All lead coaches recruited must be qualified in the RFU Level One Rugby Coaching Certificate, DBS checked and must hold a first aid qualification. Franchisees are also responsible for the day-to-day marketing and administration.

Little Scrummers classes can be run in a variety of local venues, including schools, local rugby clubs and sport centres. As well as term-time weekly coaching sessions, franchisees are able to offer children’s parties, providing fun rugby-related activities to bring in additional revenue.

How much does a Little Scrummers Rugby franchise cost?

The Little Scrummers franchise fee is £9,950 (plus) VAT. Franchisees will also require working capital of around £1,800 to get their business up and running. This additional amount covers extras such as insurance, travel and other ad hoc business expenses.

Finding funding to cover the Little Scrummers Rugby franchise cost

Little Scrummers is not able to offer franchisees financial assistance themselves, but dependent upon your financial history, major banks may be prepared to fund up to 70 per cent of the new franchise’s start-up costs.

The Little Scrummers franchise package includes access to a proven and successful business model, along with comprehensive professional training. An outstanding ongoing support system is available both in-class and online and franchisees’ progress is monitored to ensure their business is on track for success.

Not necessarily. Classes last between 45 and 60 minutes, depending on the age of the children, and tend to be held during term time and take place on Saturday mornings only. Franchisees can also run rugby themed parties mid-week or in school holidays for additional income - the business model is very flexible in terms of hours worked.

Why choose a Little Scrummers Rugby franchise?

Running a Little Scrummers Rugby franchise can be extremely rewarding. Keeping children fit, healthy and active and introducing them to the fun of playing rugby is a satisfying experience - and you may even get to train a future rugby star!

An ideal opportunity for sporty individuals who enjoy spending their time outdoors, Little Scrummers franchisees earn a healthy income while encouraging local children to get more active and introducing parents to the local rugby family. Tag rugby also develops players’ motor skills, boosting confidence on and off the pitch and teaching the value of teamwork.

The opportunity offer franchisees income streams from both weekly term-time classes and year-round children’s rugby parties.
