Oven Wizards franchisees clean ovens, hobs, extractor fans and hoods, microwaves and can offer a specialist service cleaning traditional stoves, AGAs and Rayburns.

Oven Wizards became a member of the British Franchise Association (BFA) in 2014, rising to full membership in January 2016, and is a member of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

Who is behind the Oven Wizards franchise?

Established in 2004, Oven Wizards has been successfully cleaning ovens for 15 years. Behind the scenes, managing director Mark Abbott built up his own service, Cotswold Oven Valeting, providing commercial and domestic oven cleaning in the Cotswolds area after a career in sales management and banking. In 2010 he established a new company, Oven Wizards Franchising, to take over the operation of Oven Wizards.

His partner in the latter venture is John Graham, whose background was in retail and customer care management and consulting before taking on Oven Wizards. Graham helped give the company a full rebrand and raised the company’s profile to the point where it is now firmly established as the third largest oven cleaning franchise in the UK.

From having just three franchisees, Oven Wizards has grown rapidly, hitting the milestone target of 50 franchisees in 2017, and now boasting over 60.

Oven Wizards’s franchise fee of £12,500 + VAT is the best value for money in the market, states the company. Furthermore, there is then only a fixed monthly management fee of £240 + VAT - no other monthly payments or royalty fees are charged for the franchise.

For this, the Oven Wizards franchisee receives a territory of 100,000 households and typically the start-up costs are in the range of £14,500.

What support and training does the Oven Wizards franchise offer?

Each new franchisee receives one-to-one business development training to show them how to market to and attract customers who are potentially going to be their regular client base. This is followed by a week in the Cotswolds where the franchisee will get hands-on experience of cleaning the ovens of real clients at their homes. Full technical training is given to ensure that they are confident in all aspects of cleaning ovens.

This is followed by a further three days of practical experience working with an existing franchisee, where you will have an opportunity not just to practice oven cleaning, but to see how a successful franchise business works.

The package also includes an advertising kit which will enable the new franchisee to market their business in the local area.

The technical, marketing and business development support is ongoing and franchisees have access to the Oven Wizards intranet where they can ask questions or simply share their experiences.

The Annual Conference and Regional Meetings are a great place to build relationships and share best practice with other Oven Wizards franchisees.

What is Oven Wizards looking for in its franchisees?

Applicants do not need to have had previous experience to become an Oven Wizards franchisee — for example, existing franchisees have backgrounds in music teaching, supermarket management and the police.

While it is not a job that involves any heavy lifting, you will need to be reasonably physically fit.

Oven Wizards looks for people with enthusiasm and self- motivation. It’s all about having the right attitude and wanting to run your own business. You will also need good interpersonal skills, as the job involves meeting and working with people you want to turn into repeat customers.

How methods and products does Oven Wizards use to clean ovens?

To restore your oven to a near showroom perfection, Oven Wizards professionals will remove all racks and shelving and place them in a large, heated dip tank in the back of a specially-equipped van. All removable parts are dipped and left to soak to remove all traces of fat and grease.

Oven doors are usually easily removed to allow as thorough a clean as possible. The main body of the oven is cleaned using fume-free, biodegradable oven-cleaning products,
specially developed by Oven Wizards’s consultant chemist for use by Oven Wizards franchisees.

The door, racks and shelving can then be replaced in the fully cleaned oven. In general, it takes between one and one-and-a-half hours to clean a single oven, two to two-and-a-half hours for a double ove,n and larger ranges and AGAs between three and five hours.

Hobs and extractors are similarly cleaned, with removable parts taken to the dip tank and the hob or fan thoroughly cleaned. Filters will be replaced where necessary or cleaned of any fat and grease.

A franchise with Oven Wizards runs for a term of five years and is renewable for further five year terms after that period.
