About PetStay
PetStay is a home-from-home dog-sitting service founded in 2005 in Yorkshire known as the “safe, secure and loving alternative to kennels”.
PetStay gives dog owners the opportunity to leave their dog in a safe home environment with a dog-carer at their home rather than in a kennel, which can be stressful for the dog.
PetStay started when Carole Davy, the founder of the business, had to go away and could not find a safe alternative to kennels for her dogs. Once she opened PetStay, she expanded the business throughout Hull, Yorkshire, and Lincolnshire until 2012, when she decided to turn PetStay into a franchise business. PetStay will take your
dog’s details and match them with a carer in your area. PetStay carers work with only one household at a time, providing an exclusive service to your dog(s).
The Petstay franchise has steadily grown in the UK and now has over 42 franchised local branches nationwide. In 2018, PetStay cared for over 8,000 dogs throughout the UK. PetStay was the first home-boarding company to be licensed in a number of areas in the UK and has since gained an excellent reputation for providing a home-from-home environment from handpicked local carers for all dogs.
How does a PetStay franchise work?
With PetStay, you will have the opportunity to build a venture based on a successful business model where you can be your own boss. As a franchisee, you will be working from home and managing your own team of dedicated dog-carers. Your main duties will be to match your clients’ dogs to the perfect dog-carer within your team. Strong customer service skills will also come into play when you talk to customers and explain why PetStay is the best option for them and their dogs.
As a PetStay franchisee, your day to day duties will be varied but may include talking to dog-owners and taking their details to match them effectively with the most suitable dog-carer, organising visits, sending out invoices and booking forms, sending out email confirmations and entering the bookings in the PetStay booking system, as well as general duties such as answering the phone, and responding to emails or queries.
You will be attending dog shows to promote your business, as well as visiting vets, groomers or rescue shelters to boost your local marketing and attract new business. You will interview new carers, to ensure you are working with the very best individuals. As a business owner, you will ensure your accounts are up to date, and always look for new ways to grow your business and reach more potential customers and carers in your local area.
Finally, if you decide to home board dogs yourself, you will have to walk them, play with them and ensure they have a lovely holiday - just like each one of your carers should.
As you will be working from home, your overheads will remain low, with a high-income potential in a growing market. PetStay will also provide you with a large exclusive area to operate in, which gives you plenty of opportunities to expand and grow your business.
How much does a PetStay franchise cost?
PetStay’s initial franchise package costs £11,995 + VAT. This comprehensive package gives you everything you need to start your PetStay franchise, including training and ongoing support, an exclusive territory for you to operate in, access to the booking systems, social media training and a variety of marketing materials such as business cards, banners, sweatshirts, leaflets, and online campaigns which are needed to promote your franchise. This start-up package also gives you access to a number of regional meetings and conferences to meet other franchisees.
With low overheads and high demand will take you approximately one year to break even.
There is also a high-income potential of about £36,000 per year.
Do franchisees need prior animal care experience to run a PetStay franchise?
No, you don’t necessarily need prior animal care experience to open a PetStay franchise.
The pet franchise offers all franchisees an initial three-day training at its headquarters in Yorkshire which covers everything from an overview of the marketplace, and guidance on how to set up and run your business day-to-day, to customer service and carer recruitment. The initial three-day training also covers more practical aspects like technical training and set up, how to work with the PetStay booking system, how to conduct interviews with dog carers, sales and marketing, social media and administration and accounts reporting.
This should give you everything you need to get started with your PetStay franchise. PetStay also offers ongoing support to all franchisees, especially during the first year of operation.
For a fairly low cost, PetStay has high expectations and standards. Franchisees should have a passion for dogs, be hard-working, self-motivated, committed and with a strong
work ethic. Good customer service skills and some computer skills are also preferable.
Can I buy an existing PetStay franchise near me?
You may also decide you want to buy an established PetStay business, and that is also possible. If you love dogs and want a flexible schedule, PetStay is a great opportunity to run your own business working from home in a profitable industry. Established franchises for sale usually start at £14,500+.
Buying an established PetStay franchise means you will have access to a large client list and an existing network of carers which can simplify the task of starting up a new
business from scratch.
Why choose a PetStay franchise over other petcare business opportunities?
With dog-owners increasingly looking for stress-free alternatives to kennels, PetStay is a great opportunity to get involved in the growing and evolving home boarding market.
PetStay is a leading pet care franchise, and its business model gives you flexibility and the ability to work from home on your own schedule. Franchisees have the opportunity to generate high income with low overheads, while providing a high-quality service to dog-owners in your area.
