Artisan doughnut chef Paul Hurley formulated the recipe for Dum Dum Donuts in 2013. They’re hand-made with natural ingredients and beautifully baked. As a result of their irresistible deliciousness, the brand’s effective use of social media and the modern twist it’s applied to the humble doughnut, it has a growing legion of loyal of fans in the UK.

The company bakes rather than deep fries all their doughnuts using their unique baking process and patisserie techniques, rather than the method of simply floating dough in hot oil. The result is a lighter and less sickly product that meets the growing demands of consumers in 2020.

Franchisees benefit from this logistically simple concept: no cooking on-site as products are delivered fresh each day to their store, simply displaying and providing a first-class customer experience.

In addition, Dum Dum Donuts is training high-end coffee roasters, ready to support franchisees with franchise rollouts across the UK.

What’s a pop-up franchise?

It’s a version of the Dum Dum Donuts franchise business, but over a shorter period than a full franchise agreement and with no franchise fee or royalties to pay. It’s temporary in nature so that franchisees can take advantage of short-term property opportunities and test their local market.

Paul Hurley, founder of Dum Dum Donuts, says: “We believe that as a result of the challenges thus far in 2020 there will be some great property opportunities, as well as leisure and event spaces that are looking to maximise revenue.

“However, starting a business at this time can be daunting, so de-risking opportunities with flexibility and minimising initial outlay is essential.”

How the concept works

The Dum Dum Donuts pop-up franchise gives investors the chance to secure a franchise territory and operate a store for up to six months, perhaps in a vacant unit, kiosk, event space, indoor or outdoor cart space, travel hub or even a food hall/market.

Full support is provided to all pop-up franchisees, who are also given access to Dum Dum Donuts’ comprehensive training manuals.

After the agreed term for the pop-up comes to an end, you can walk away with no further obligations. Alternatively, if you feel you’ve established the store and proven the demand post lockdown, you have the option to upgrade to a full five-year franchise on preferential terms.

Dum Dum Donuts is looking for driven franchisees who are able to secure high footfall locations for its pop-up initiative. Therefore, the qualifying criteria are strict, with an initially limited number of pop-up franchises available.
