What kind of support structure should a franchisee expect from a franchisor?
While the theory says the franchisor should support the franchisee with all aspects of running their business and should therefore presumably employ or otherwise engage relevant technical, marketing, sales, management and whatever else experts, that clearly isn’t going to be possible in practice. In the early days of creating a franchised network, it is often the original creator of the business who is providing all the training and support at the same time as trying to keep the original business operating successfully. So the practical answer to the question is to expect the level of support that was promised during the recruitment process in the hope the franchisor was being truthful about the stage of development the franchised network has reached. If you were thinking about joining a network of, say, food service restaurants that is well established with more than 50 franchisees, you can expect there to be a management team in place that can help you with nearly all aspects of the business and can visit you to provide that help.
