Sam Whittaker, marketing manager at Mail Boxes Etc. UK and Ireland explains how ambitious plans align with franchisees’ needs and wishes
As one of the world’s largest logistics franchisors, Mail Boxes Etc. UK and Ireland is part of a worldwide group with over 1,800 solution centres. Services are available online and from more than 140 high-street stores run by customer-focused franchisees.
The group has ambitious plans for growth, as Sam Whittaker, marketing manager for UK&I explains: “Over a third of our centres saw double-digit year-on-year revenue growth across the franchise network in 2023, contributing to our plans to double the group’s size within the next three years.”
What makes the MBE mix successful?
Sam: Our unique portfolio of services offers multiple revenue streams. This means franchisees can focus on their strengths, be agile when markets are volatile, and cater to the needs of their local communities.
Do you have any niche areas of expertise?
The growth of online bidding and auctioneering has increased the demand for white-glove logistics. We work with more than 750 auctioneers and dealers across the UK and Ireland to ensure buyers can have their lots shipped to them safely, anywhere in the world.
We’re also the ideal partner for start-ups, SOHOs (Small Office/Home Office), and small businesses. Our franchise partners are perfectly positioned to understand the needs of this marketplace as small business owners themselves.
What makes MBE special for franchisees?
We support our franchise partners in every aspect, from helping them put their business plan together and apply for funding to finding the perfect location for their new MBE centre.
Many of our franchise partners come from a business background and some already have expertise in print, shipping, or retail. But we ensure that thorough onboarding and training is
provided, so no prior experience is necessary – just a dedication to customer service and the willingness to work hard.
Franchise partners must be able to grow their businesses to match their ambitions and we have a range of technology to help them do just that, allowing them to focus on multiple profit centres as well as navigate the international shipping market in volatile trading conditions.
What are your future plans?
We have access to a wealth of expertise and experience across the group, as well as the purchasing power that helps us remain profitable and competitive.
Our strategy for 2024 is not only to continue serving our core markets, but also to engage with larger businesses that stand to gain from our comprehensive suite of support services.
