The Radfield Home Care franchisee for Harrogate, Wetherby and North Yorkshire, Matthew Nutting, is the new owner of the Ilkley, Skipton and Otley territory
Matthew Nutting, and his wife, Natalie, are established in the Radfield Home Care franchise, with the brand considering them one of their most successful ownership teams.
Matthew first joined the franchise in 2018, leaving behind a career in the NHS culminating in his role as a clinical manager - supporting occupational therapists in the community.
However, he was looking for a new career which could fulfil his goals of creating a legacy for his family and doing more to help those in need in his community.
He looked at a number of care franchises during this time but, when he discovered Radfield Home Care, he immediately felt he shared their goals and values.
“From the very beginning, I could see that Radfield understood the value of every person in their network – their skills, experience and background – not just the value of their investment, and that extends to how they enable us to provide quality care, too,” says Matthew. “It’s about building something which is properly embedded in the local community, and not just a corporate machine churning out care.”
Multiple territories in the works
The combination of Matthew’s skills and experience, and the expertise of the Radfield Home Care franchise, have helped to create a business with built-in scalability and stable revenue. Matthew’s second territory is now up and running, and he is now considering a third territory for 2025.
Matthew also recently won the ‘Number One Employer’ at the Your Harrogate Radio Local Hero Awards, which he was nominated for by his own team.
Advice for potential franchisees
Reflecting on his journey with Radfield so far, Matthew says it’s important for potential franchisees to consider what they want to achieve right from the start.
“Follow the vision and values first, and the money will follow,” he says. “Set off with the right intentions and focus on the bigger picture, don’t just chase easy contracts and money. Be clear about your mission, look after your staff and service users well, and the rest will fall into place.
“It’s all about family. Treating everyone in your care, or your employ, the way you would want yourself or a loved one to be treated. Even though we are expanding, we will never lose that commitment. We are a local care company staffed by local people. From the community, for the community. That’s exactly what Radfield is all about, too.”
