Jerry Bosu and Alisha Limbu launched their business in South Gloucester last year. They reflect on what it’s taken to get here
In 2023, husband and wife, Jerry Bosu and Alisha Limbu set up their Sylvian Care business in South Gloucester.
Health care had always been a centre point of their relationship, with the duo having met while working as mental health nurses.
It was this experience that persuaded them to invest in a home care franchise business. Now having been in operation for 12 months they’re celebrating their achievements so far as well as looking to what’s next.
Making the decision to be business owners
“We met working together as mental health nurses in west London,” says Alisha, who has taken up a managing director role. “We then moved to Oxford, where I finished my training, before settling in Gloucester to be closer to my family.”
By this point, the couple had more than a decade of experience in the care sector, while Jerry had been harbouring an entrepreneurial spirit that he wanted to put to good use.
“I’d always wanted to run my own business,” confirms Jerry. “Sylvian Care South Gloucester was the perfect opportunity for us. Me and Alisha have a lot of experience in care, so it seemed a natural choice.
“Using our backgrounds, we like to be quite hands-on with the work we do – it’s really rewarding to make such a positive impact in people’s lives.”
Winning over the local community
Home care franchise Sylvian Care aims its care professionals to create personable relationships with its service users. This familiarity was an aspect of the brand that Jerry and Alisha appreciated and have tried to replicate with their South Gloucester location.
The first step in building trust within the local community was to register with CQC which the pair did in December 2022, before launching.
This laid the foundations for Jerry and Alisha to start building strong relationships with staff members, clients, and clients’ family members.
Enetty, a member of staff at Sylvian Care South Gloucester, says: “Coming from Africa, it has been such a great journey working at Sylvian Care. My clients have brought the best out of me too.
“I’m proud to be part of the team and I carry our logo with pride as our care comes deep from all our hearts.”
Julie, a daughter of one of their clients, adds: “Mum has been cared for by Sylvian Care for a few months now, and I can’t fault the company in any way – the staff are happy, friendly and engaging with my mum and also very punctual.
“When new medicine is introduced, it’s always double checked by management. I love the app too – it keeps me well informed and up to date with each visit.”
The business currently services residents in areas including Chipping Sodbury, Yate, Thornbury, Alveston, Patchway, and Bradley Stoke.
“Now that we’re more established and have taken time to celebrate our first year in business with our team, we’re looking forward to working with other local companies and supporting charities in our community,” says Alisha.
“We’re proud to deliver care to clients across such a vast area – and in a beautiful part of the country – so we’d like to give back to others living on our doorstep however we can.”
