About Cleanhome
Karen Kelly established her own domestic cleaning company, called Cleanhome, in the Thames Valley in 2010 and within 23 months’ turnover had reached £72,319 - 80 per cent of which was profit.
Coming from a corporate background, and having worked at a senior level within Disney and Virgin Atlantic, Kelly set up the business because she wanted a better work-life balance.
Having run her own business successfully for a time, she decided to make the move to franchise the company in 2012 and has brought her corporate experience into the business, meaning Cleanhome has a strong focus on training, support, and adding value to cleaning concerns.
Now a growing, successful cleaning franchise with an established business model, which has been proven to work since it was first founded, Cleanhome is looking for committed franchisees nationwide and offers two levels of investment, with bank financing available, subject to status.
How does the Cleanhome franchise model work?
Kelly and her team want to help people realise their dream of building and owning their own cleaning business franchises and are looking for enthusiastic and ambitious people who want to invest in their future.
The two levels of investment are £7,995 and £9,995 (plus VAT). Both include a comprehensive training programme, bespoke Genesys business software, ongoing training and support, stationery, marketing, insurance, and a Google starter campaign.
The higher level investment package includes a Royal Mail marketing campaign worth £2,500.
A franchisee will be expected to provide their own phone, computer and printer. The fee for Genesys software hosting is £8.50 per month.
What locations or territories is Cleanhome looking to operate in?
Territories are available nationwide. Each territory has a minimum of 100,000 households, with a potential 45,000 households in the Cleanhome target market.
To put that in context, approximately 300 households would create a turnover of £85,000, of which approximately £70,000 is profit.
Why is a Cleanhome franchise a good investment?
Investing in a franchise can be one of the safest routes into entrepreneurship.
As for the company itself, Cleanhome’s use of cloud-based technology to enable business growth and to organise each franchisee’s business means they can focus on customer satisfaction and growing the business.
Genesys uses cloud-based technology to operate as a personal assistant, which organises the total process/administration and finance sides of the business.
Available on PC, Mac, iPhone and iPad, Genesys allows franchisees to manage their business anywhere where there is an internet connection and is one of the biggest factors differentiating it from the competition. The system provides a ‘dashboard view’ of the entire franchise, giving franchisees an immediate overall view of the status of the business.
Genesys presents information in a structured manner using a ‘traffic light’ system to flag up areas of the business which need attention. In addition, the system generates customer invoices, meaning a far higher percentage of invoices are paid on time - the automated invoice chasing function has reduced outstanding debt by 75 per cent across franchise operations.
Other reasons the business is set apart from others in the domestic cleaning sector include:
• Cleanhome franchises have capped business fees, meaning profits as the business expands go directly to the franchisee.

• Branding for Cleanhome is described as more fresh and modern than some of the older cleaning franchises trading.
• Existing franchisees cite more support and better service allied to the Cleanhome brand than other cleaning franchises.
• The company is not ‘too big to care’ for its franchisees, with extensive personal support offered to those joining the network.
Cleanhome is passionate about the business and committed to the continued growth and success of its franchisees. At every training day, the company sets aside time for feedback on how the franchise can be improved.
Where in the UK is the Cleanhome franchise head office based?
The Cleanhome headquarters are based just outside of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
What support and training do Cleanhome franchisees receive?
An initial two-day training programme includes all the information you’ll need to get up and running, from how to interview cleaners to lessons in doing accounts.
Participative development is also offered, including role playing - an exercise proven to help franchisees increase their confidence when out in the field or drumming up new business.
In addition, Cleanhome has a franchisee shadowing system, whereby new recruits spend time with an experienced franchisee so that they can see how to deal with potential clients.
A tailored cleaning franchise training programme allows franchisees to make the most of their strengths and identify areas where they need more support.
Franchisees also benefit from two additional training days every six months because legislative and industry changes demand continual retraining. All franchisees attends these two days per year, as it’s also a chance to share experiences with the rest of the network.
An open culture within the business encourages good communication within the network. Cleanhome franchisees take an active part in the development of the network and supporting infrastructure, with inclusivity and collaboration encouraged.
What are the Cleanhome franchise terms of agreement and renewal?
The franchise term is five years and is renewable at no extra cost on a continuing basis every further five years.
You don’t need experience of running your own business to run a successful Cleanhome franchise, although the right attitude is crucial.
How in demand are domestic services right now?
The growth of home ownership over the past few decades and widespread interest in home décor and lifestyle means domestic cleaning is regarded as a necessity rather than a luxury these days.
And the future outlook for the domestic cleaning market is very healthy - the cleaning industry in the UK is estimated to be worth over £4.7bn, according to the Office for National Statistics - meaning the Cleanhome network continues to go from strength to strength.
