Jordan Tracey bought Driver Hire Dundee and Perth in March 2020, just before the first COVID-19 lockdown, but instead of feeling sorry for himself, he hit the phones and worked really hard to turn the corner
Jordan Tracey has been described by the British Franchise Association as one of the ‘Best in Franchising’. He bought the Driver Hire Dundee and Perth franchise in 2020 and became ‘Next Generation Franchisee Finalist’ at the bfa HSBC British Franchise Awards 2021.
Jordan joined Driver Hire as an employee of one of Driver Hire’s franchised offices, where he very quickly realised that he had found his niche, saying: “I love everything about recruitment – winning business, finding work for candidates, changing people’s lives.”
After continued success as an employee, Jordan was naturally considering the next step up. “I was working really hard, and loving it, but increasingly felt like I’d like to be my own boss and see a direct return for my efforts,” he explains.
When the previous Dundee and Perth franchisee decided to sell the business, Jordan saw this as the perfect opportunity to do just that. He bought the business in March 2020 – aged 23 years – just two weeks before the UK’s first national lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. Along with thousands of other businesses, he was in uncharted waters. “Instead of feeling sorry for myself, I hit the phones and worked really hard. It didn’t take long to turn a corner,” he says.
With his steely determination, Jordan hasn’t only turned a corner – he has taken the business to new heights, achieving over £1.2m turnover already this financial year. Nearly two years on, Jordan hasn’t looked back on his decision to take over as franchisee, adding: “This business is transforming my life, thanks to franchising, the Driver Hire model, and my own hard work.”
