Since being established in 2008, Tezlom has placed taking care of others at the very heart of its day-to-day practices
Having started life as a small, family-run business based in Southport, Tezlom has now grown to include 13 franchisees which are spread across the UK and provide workers for some of the country’s most well-known care providers.
This includes staff for the NHS, Mental Health Hospitals and Learning Disability Units. Since 2008, Tezlom has been headed by Ryan Armitage and his mum, Roz. They have embraced a bold, new approach that has seen Tezlom grow substantially in a relatively short amount of time
Supporting the network
Over the years, Tezlom has found that one of the most important factors when it comes to ensuring the success of franchisees is ensuring that they have the best possible support in place from the very start of their journey. At its heart, Tezlom is still a family company. This has grown and developed over time, with franchisees being included as a part of that family feeling; creating a sense of loyalty and trust within the company which reassures, comforts and gives confidence.
There has also been a significant push towards adopting a transparent approach wherever possible. This is designed to help everyone stay up-to-date with changes and news within the company. By ensuring that franchisees, staff members and candidates are all informed as much as possible, it has been possible to create a warm and friendly working environment throughout the franchise as a whole.
An additional feature that helps to ensure that Tezlom is unique within the world of care franchising is the emphasis that has been placed on the importance of mental health and wellbeing. All franchisees are given access to a variety of resources and support through a collaboration with Whysup which can be accessed at any time.
What do the franchisees have to say?
Any company can tell you that they are doing a good job, but this doesn’t necessarily make it true. Taking the time to speak to those who have invested their money into creating a franchise can help to give valuable insight as to what a company is really like for those within it. After speaking to a variety of Tezlom franchisees, you can quickly see that they do far more than simply talk the talk.
Speaking to franchisees, it is easy to see that while everyone may have unique and personal reasons for choosing their franchise, they have all found joining Tezlom to be a welcoming and supportive experience that allows them to grow individually while creating a personal approach to care recruitment. Lesley Jackson from Doncaster says, “with Tezlom, it was very clear that the network is a working network and that it supports each other so actually, this opportunity to come together is really important.”
For Raghav Prasad in Reading, Tezlom has offered the opportunity to leave his previous career as a business analyst and embrace a new challenge running his own business. He has found that his previous customer service background has helped to ensure that his customers are happy and satisfied.
He has also found that one of his favourite aspects of being a franchisee is the variety: “What I love about my business right now is no two days are the same. Every day is different and you have to face new challenges every day.”
Others, such as husband-and-wife team Kevin and Carol Fitzpatrick from Scotland, found that combining their individual expertise helped to create a successful partnership. Kevin had a background as the managing director of an engineering company, while Carol had been a nurse.
Carol had originally begun the franchise by herself, with Kevin joining her at a later date. When choosing to join Tezlom, Carol says that it was the family business aspect and additional support which really swayed her: “We just like the feel of a family business, I like the support that they give you.”
Kevin has also found that the regular Tezlom conferences have helped to reassure any worries he may have had. He attended the most recent conference in Milton Keynes and said that it was exactly what he had needed: “As a newcomer to the business (on a full-time basis) it has really settled my mind and convinced me that I have made the right decision.” Conferences happen twice a year and are open to all Tezlom franchisees.
For more and more of us, ensuring that our career is compatible with family life is a pressing issue. This was the case for Samuel Smith in Tonbridge who chose Tezlom because it was able to fit around family life.
When asked, Samuel said: “Family is a big thing for both me and my wife. When we first moved into our offices, we brought the kids down there to let them see it. They love coming down to the office.”
This ability to adapt and adjust to family life which Tezlom offers has meant that he has been able to create a successful franchise while also balancing all of the other issues that being a parent brings.
