Since opening its first sushi takeaway store in London’s Marylebone district in 2008, YouMeSushi has been delighting London with its innovative take on Japanese cuisine. A second site opened shortly after the first in London Westfield in 2010, and today the brand operates in 18 sites across the capital.

YouMeSushi is now planning to share its innovative menu in an expansion across the UK, with plans to grow to 35 sites by the end of 2023 and then to double that estate again going forward.

The YouMeSushi menu offers a beautiful variety of healthy, fresh choices including a diverse range of YouMeSushi boxes, hot katsu and teriyaki dishes, poke bowls, and an impressive selection of vegan options. Considering that the target demographic is becoming increasingly conscious of healthy eating, and with the ever-growing popularity of clean-eating, raw, and plant-based diets, it is no wonder that the demand for YouMeSushi’s wonderful cuisine has only continued to grow.

Sushi in particular has seen an extraordinary surge in popularity across the UK and has now become the fourth largest ‘food to go’ product.

How does the YouMeSushi franchise model work?

YouMeSushi is primarily a delivery business also offering collection and limited eat in. Not being entirely reliant on sit-down or takeaway customers, YouMeSushi can achieve high street level sales even from secondary locations, given the currently increasing demand for home deliveries and catering. With this combination, some sites have been known to reach sales of up to £40,000 per week. Currently, 65 per cent of the brand’s business comes from delivery sales, supported by its very own delivery infrastructure.

As the brand uses its own YouMeSushi delivery app and website for customer ordering and reliable drivers, tighter control can be maintained over perfect product quality, and profit margins are higher due to reduced reliance on third party aggregator sales than its competitors.

Who would make a great YouMeSushi franchisee?

The company is currently searching for positive, enthusiastic business operators, especially multi-unit franchisees, with experience in either food, hospitality, management, or marketing. Industry experience is desirable but not essential, as YouMeSushi offers comprehensive training.

Current franchisees are either existing franchise groups, former restaurant employees and even ex-accountants or other white-collar professions!

What is the minimum investment level required?

Minimum investment is approximately £75,000, with a total investment of around £155,000, depending on store size and location. Applications from multi-site, multi-brand franchise groups and individuals with broad backgrounds including food and hospitality, business management and marketing are welcomed. Delivery only models may be available for areas with low footfall, but strong demographics.

What locations or territories is YouMeSushi looking to operate in?

YouMeSushi is planning on opening 35 sites by the end of 2023 and then to double that estate again going forward. The primary interest is in expanding across the UK, particularly in secondary locations with excellent delivery prospects, but master franchisees may also be considered in Europe.

What are the franchise terms of agreement and renewal?

The franchise agreement grants the franchisee the right to operate a YouMeSushi business for an initial period of 10 years, which is then followed by a right of renewal for further 5 years.
