Joining Ovenclean was the right decision for Owen Rowlands
After 15 years working in highway construction and maintenance, Owen Rowlands decided it was time for a change in career and in June last year joined Ovenclean, the UK’s leading domestic oven cleaning franchise.
“When I was given notice of possible redundancy I was worried about how I’d earn an income going forward, but I didn’t want to start again in the same industry,” Owen states. “It was time for a change.”
Open day

He wasn’t initially sure of what he wanted to do, but while perusing the jobs pages of a newspaper he spotted an advertisement for Ovenclean and decided to attend one of its open days to find out more. “I was really impressed,” he admits. “I was able to chat to one of Ovenclean’s existing franchisees, who told me how he’d made a success of his business.
Then, when I met the management team, everyone was friendly and informative, but not at all pushy.”
Having spoken to more franchisees and mulled the idea over, Owen decided to invest in a franchise and started his training a few weeks later.
“My training included two weeks shadowing an experienced Ovenclean franchisee,” he says. “Initially I wondered how it could possibly take two weeks to learn how to clean an oven, but by the end of training I realised just how much there is to it - not only the cleaning, but in running your business. My trainer was great. He was - and still is - always happy to offer advice.”
Owen’s launch programme helped generate an initial two months work and he also secured a lucrative contract from the local university letting agent, achieving incomes of up to £2,500 per week and creating a solid foundation for his new business.
“Joining Ovenclean was the right decision for me,” he confirms. “After only a few months I’m earning the same as in my previous role. I have my independence, feel appreciated by my customers and I’m happier in my work than I’ve ever been.”
