Do I have to pay a franchisor extra for future staff training?
As franchisee, you will be responsible, at your own cost, for delivering any initial training to staff that you employ prior to opening. As it is important for a franchisee and their staff to be trained on any developments in the franchise business, most franchisors will insist that franchisees undergo additional training throughout the term of the franchise agreement. This additional training is usually provided at the cost of the franchisor, unless specifically requested by the franchisee, when the franchisee will be responsible for the franchisor’s costs. Whilst the franchisor will usually provide additional training free of charge, the franchisee will usually be responsible for any other costs that may be incurred in attending the training. Unless your franchisor has insisted that it has to provide any additional training to your staff, it will be your responsibility to pass on anything that you learn through the additional training to your own staff. Again, you will be responsible for any costs you may incur in providing additional staff training, which may include your own management time, cost of providing a venue for the training and your staff’s costs in attending the training.
