Comfort Keepers, an American elderly care franchise, has launched in the UK.
The company offers a new concept in elderly care services, providing companionship and support primarily to elderly people wishing to live independently in their own homes.
Comfort Keepers was established in 1998 by a registered nurse in home healthcare and her husband. Today the company has 480 franchises in operation, including a highly successful master franchise in Canada, providing non-medical care at home to thousands of people who need this service.
Now the concept has been introduced into the UK with the launch of the first master franchise in Surrey.
The service, which ranges from a simple phone call or a regular chat over a cup of tea, to light housework, shopping and even round-the-clock companionship, has proved increasingly popular in Canada and the United States, and is one that International Franchise Development Director, Ray Hays, believes will quickly take root in the UK.
“After our successful launch into Canada, we are gearing up for an internatinal expansion programme,” he says. “Our strategy is to take the successful Comfort Keepers franchise model and duplicate these efforts internationally.
“The UK is our first entry outside North America and in the near future we plan to enter other key European countries, including Ireland and Spain, in addition to other high demand markets such as Australia and New Zealand.
“As in the USA, an increasing proportion of the UK population are elderly and the majority live alone. This has created a fertile and rapidly expanding new industry for care providers such as Comfort Keepers, which offers an entrepreneurial path to build a business which touches peoples’ lives. In essence, our philosophy is ‘success through caring’.”
