How can I make sure the information provided by a franchisor is correct?
There are measures you can take to check that any information given by a franchisor is correct. These measures include: Speaking to existing franchisees. Whilst you may find that the franchisor recommends you speak to existing franchisees, you should also try to speak to franchisees the franchisor has not recommend. Conducting investigations from information that is publicly available, for example by using the internet as a resource. If the franchisor is a limited company, obtaining a full set of company accounts from Companies House. The accounts will show the turnover and profits of the franchisor, although it will be for the previous year. If the franchisor has registered with the British Franchise Association, you can make enquiries at the bfa, which is the self-regulating governing body of the franchise industry in the UK. By signing up to join the bfa, members agree to meet its entry requirements as well as agreeing to follow a code of practice that encompasses the European Code of Ethics for Franchising.
